PROMIX Stone Veneer Mortar

PROMIX Stone Veneer Products are designed for superior performance with installation of lightweight manufactured stone materials. PROMIX Stone Mortar is a pre-blended product using Portland cement, lime and well graded masonry sand.

PROMIX Stone Veneer Mortar

This mortar is used for “buttering” or spread on the back of the stone. We recommend covering the back of the stone fully with out any voids. This mortar will conform to ASTM C-270 Type S specifications and is a Portland and Lime mix pre-blended with finely graded sand.

Sizes: PROMIX Stone Veneer Mortar is available in two sized packages. 70 LB (31.75 KG) Bags approximately 2/3 cubic foot. 3000LB (1360 KG) Bulk Bags approximately 27 cubic feet.

Mixing: For each 70LB bag add 7 pints of fresh potable water to mixer. Turn mixer on and begin to adding mortar mix to the mixer. If the material becomes to difficult to mix, add additional water until a workable mix of trowelable consistency is obtained. Note that the final water content should be from 7-12 pints per bag.

Precautions: Variations in mix water amount, mixing time, curing conditions and finishing practices can cause color variations. Always follow the stone manufactured installation instructions.

Coverage: Refer to the PROMIX estimating table.

PROMIX Stone Veneer Grout Mortar

This mortar is to be used when it is necessary to go back and grout around the previously placed stone. This mortar squeezes through a bakers bag very easily or can be troweled and tooled into place. This mortar will conform to ASTM C-270 Type N specifications and is a Portland and Lime mix pre-blended with finely graded sand.

PROMIX Stone Veneer Scratch and Base Coat

This product is too used when a base coat is required as a substrate for manufactured stone applications. Typically this product is troweled on a wire lath system, and then scratched horizontally for the stone to be applied onto later. This product is very rich in Portland cement and does not contain lime, therefore drying shrinkage can occur. This product is not intended to be used as a finish product. Proper curing methods such as damp curing may reduce shrinkage.

PROMIX Custom Colored Stone Veneer Mortar, Grout Mortar and Scratch and Base Coat Mortar

PROMIX Custom Colors are available in 24 colors with 4 standard colors. The minimum order for pre-blended mortar is 3000# batch which will yield approximately 42 -70# bags. PROMIX Custom Colored Stone Mortar products are a pre-blended mortar using only ASTM C-979 approved iron oxide pigments supplied by Prism Pigments. The Stone Colored Mortar also meets ASTM C-270 requirements.

Special Precautions: Variations in mix water amount, mixing time, curing conditions and finishing practices can cause color variations. It is critical to maintain a uniform water to mix ratio. Do not strike joints too early or too wet. Do not retemper mortar by adding additional water. Mortar should be used within two hours of mixing. Try to keep the mixing environment consistent using a mechanical mixer and blending the mix for at least five minutes. The raw color of the unmixed product may not appear to match the final color. The mortar should be cured a full 28 days. Clean only with potable water. Colored mortar joints should not be cleaned with muriatic acid.
